EXIT &

EMERGENCY LIGHTING

All Class 2-9 buildings require exit signage and emergency lighting as a safety requirement in the event of a fire or power outage. Emergency lighting is necessary to provide sufficient lighting to allow occupants to make a safe exit using the defined exit routes.

It is necessary to provide signage to indicate location and/or direction of travel to the exit point/s in order to complete the exit recognition of exit routes. Exit signs need to be placed in positions visible to all persons seeking exit from the building and should be distinct. Additional signage should be supplied where exit points are not readily visible from the occupied areas of a floor or space and need to indicate the direction to the exit point.

The situation existing in the building, its occupants, processes or uses and the characteristics of the building, will determine the signage method selected.
